Founded in 2000, Football Aid was developed by Scottish businessman Craig Paterson, as a unique and innovative way of raising money to find a cure for diabetes; a condition his son was diagnosed with at the age of 12. Football Aid hosts events at the UK’s largest Clubs allowing supporters the chance to ‘Live the Dream’ and play where their heroes have played in an officiated 90 minute game of football on the hallowed turf of the Club they support. The money raised is distributed through Football Aid’s parent charity, Field of Dreams to Diabetes research, education and management projects as well as to charities and voluntary organizations nominated by Football Aid’s partner clubs and authorities.
"Football Aid has given supporters a fantastic opportunity to experience just what it's like to pull on the jersey and play for their team. The emotion and memories created live long in the mind and when the penny drops about money going to good causes, and seeing the messages of thanks and the feedback from the projects that we help fund, those memories are multiplied." Sir Bobby Robson, Patron
"Football Aid brings such joy to fans who have followed their teams over the years, and who can’t quite believe that they are sitting in the same dressing rooms and playing on the same pitch as their heroes. The fact that a proportion of proceeds from these games go to diabetes research is particularly important to me, as one who has learned to live with the condition over many years." Danny McGrain MBE, Vice Patron |
